    ⁃ What We Build ⁃

Deck and Outdoor Living Services in Chattanooga

Arellano Construction has been building decks, porches, and outdoor structures across Chattanooga and Hamilton County for more than ten years. Everything below is work we do ourselves, with our own crew, start to finish.

Most people come to us knowing roughly what they want and not quite how to get there. That is normal. The material, the layout, and whether the space should be open, covered, or screened all depend on your lot and how you actually plan to use it. We walk the space with you before recommending anything, and the estimate is free either way.

    Our Services

Custom Decks The starting point for most projects. We design around your lot rather than dropping a rectangle behind the house, which matters a great deal on the sloped and wooded lots common around Chattanooga. Multi-level layouts, built-in seating, integrated stairs and lighting, and railing systems chosen to fit the house and keep the view open where there is one. See custom decks → Composite Decks The majority of what we build now, and what we recommend for most homeowners. Trex and TimberTech decking does not absorb water, does not splinter, and never needs staining or sealing. On shaded, wooded, or lake-adjacent lots where wood struggles, the difference shows up within a few seasons. We bring samples to the estimate so you choose off real boards in your own light. See composite decks → Covered Decks A roof over the deck turns a space you use in good weather into one you use most of the year. Rain stops being a reason to go inside, and afternoon sun stops making the surface too hot to walk on. We match the roofline and materials to the existing house so it reads as part of the home rather than an addition. See covered decks → Screened Porches The answer for wooded lots and anywhere near water, where mosquitoes make an open deck unusable on summer evenings. You keep the breeze, the view, and the connection to the yard, and you lose the insects. We build them new and convert existing decks, with composite flooring underfoot that stands up to the humidity. See screened porches → Covered Patios Ground-level covered outdoor space, for lots where a raised deck is not the right call or where you want the space to flow straight out from the house. Often paired with an outdoor kitchen, a fireplace, or a seating area, and a strong option when grade or budget rules out building up. See covered patios → Pool Decks Surrounds built to work with the pool rather than around it. Slip-resistant surfaces, proper drainage, integrated steps and seating, and layouts that account for how people actually move between the water, the shade, and the house. Composite works especially well here since it does not splinter underfoot. See pool decks → Pergolas Shade and structure without closing the space in. Freestanding in the yard or attached to the house, sized to the area they cover, and built heavy enough to look like part of the property rather than a kit. A good option for open lots that get hard afternoon sun. See pergolas → Gazebos A standalone structure that gives the yard a destination of its own, set away from the house where the view or the shade is best. Works well on larger lots with room to spare, and pairs naturally with a walkway or a seating area. See gazebos →

    ⁃ How It Works ⁃

From First Call to Finished Build

    1. We come out and walk it

Tell us about the project by phone or through the form. We set a time, come out, and look at the actual space — grade, access, sun, drainage, how the deck will connect to the house. Free, and no pressure to decide while we are standing there.

    2. Design and materials

We talk through layout, material, and railing, and we bring composite samples so you are choosing off real boards. If your neighborhood requires architectural review, we put together the drawings and specs the committee needs.

    3. Written estimate

You get a real number in writing, with the scope spelled out. Access difficulty and site conditions are priced in up front rather than showing up later as a change order.

    4. Permits and build

We pull the permits and coordinate inspections. Most residential decks run one to three weeks of build time once we start. You will know the schedule before we begin.

Not sure which one you need? That is what the estimate is for. We will look at the space and tell you honestly what makes sense. Free estimates, licensed and insured, 10+ years in Hamilton County.

    ⁃ Common Questions ⁃

    Questions We Get Asked

Which type of deck is right for my house?
It usually comes down to your lot, how you want to use the space, and how much upkeep you are willing to do. A lot that falls away behind the house points toward a raised or multi-level deck. Heavy tree cover or a lot near water points toward composite and often toward a screened porch. We walk the space with you before recommending anything, because the right answer is rarely obvious from a photo.
Is composite really worth the extra cost over wood?
For most homeowners in this area, yes. Wood costs less up front but needs cleaning, sanding, and staining on a schedule most people abandon after a few years, and in shade or humidity it degrades faster than people expect. Composite costs more at the start and then costs nothing. We price both so you can see the difference and decide.
Do you handle permits and HOA approval?
Yes. We handle permitting and coordinate inspections as part of the build. If your neighborhood has an architectural review committee, we prepare the drawings and material specifications they require and design within what your covenants allow.
How long does a project take?
Most residential decks run one to three weeks of build time once we start. Elevated, multi-level, and covered structures take longer. Permitting, HOA approval, and material lead times affect the start date more than the build itself, which is why we begin that paperwork early.
    What does a project cost?
It depends on size, material, height off the ground, and how difficult the lot is to work. We give free written estimates after walking the site, so you get a real number for your project rather than a range off a calculator.
Do you build anywhere outside Chattanooga?
We build across Hamilton County and into North Georgia. Signal Mountain, Lookout Mountain, Ooltewah, Hixson, Soddy-Daisy, and Red Bank are all inside our normal service area, along with Collegedale, Apison, Harrison, Lakesite, East Ridge, Ringgold, and Fort Oglethorpe.
